STEFAN SAGMEISTER’S INVITATION

Nick Paparone, Jamie Javier and I worked together to produce an almost 40-page notepad of compositions as an attempt to lure Stefan Sagmeister into being our commencement speaker for our graduation ceremony. Unfortunately, he regretted to inform us that he will be out of the country at the time, but promised to speak at commencement for the following year. Each page of the notepad was based on a sketch of a particular senior, which communicated that every last one of us would be thrilled if he came. We used a variety of materials including drawing with pen, ink, crayon, typewriter type, lacquer transfer, silk screen, staples, thread, inkjet prints, Polaroid photography, collage, oil pastel, markers, etc. and packaged the notebook in a back pocket cut from vintage jeans, which rested in a box we made from old, found cardboard.
